Experience an evening of music that moves from quiet reflection through grief and remembrance toward compassion, understanding, and hope.
Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis surrounds the audience with rich, resonant strings. Based on a melody written by English composer Thomas Tallis in the 16th century, the music unfolds across multiple string ensembles to create an intimate and expansive sound.
Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard remembers the young gay man whose 1998 murder became a defining moment in the fight against hatred and violence. The three-part oratorio draws from poetry, Matthew’s personal writings, reflections from his parents, newspaper reports, and original texts by Johnson and Michael Dennis Browne. Its wide range of musical styles carries the story from shock and grief toward compassion, understanding, and love.
