About the event
Masterworks II is a celebration of bold voices and unforgettable soundscapes, pairing rarely heard gems with a towering symphonic masterpiece.
The evening begins with Gustav Holst’s Japanese Suite, a vibrant work inspired by his fascination with Eastern music and culture. Though best known for The Planets, Holst reveals another side of his artistry here — light, colorful, and full of rhythmic vitality.
The program continues with Lou Harrison’s striking Piano Concerto, performed by the internationally acclaimed pianist Sarah Cahill. Described as “a sterling pianist and an intrepid illuminator of the classical avant-garde” by the New York Times, Cahill has dedicated her career to championing innovative composers and expanding the piano repertoire. Harrison’s concerto is both lyrical and percussive, fusing Eastern and Western traditions in a dazzling tour de force. With Cahill at the keyboard, this promises to be a performance of brilliance and passion.
